“Technology” for language classes was awarded $1,000 at the Junior High campus. The technology, consisting of a projector and screen, will allow for Power Point lessons and a classroom performance system (CPS). Each student will be given a CPS “clicker” to answer questions presented in teacher’s lessons. This will allow students to be interactive while improving proficiency in a foreign language, as well as giving the teacher immediate feedback of each student’s progress.

“Mobilepresenter Bluetooth Tablet” was awarded $395 at the High School campus to provide an interactive mobile presenter tablet that uses Bluetooth technology to provide wireless control of computer functions. The mobile presenter allows the educator to move around the room while presenting material. It also allows the capability to use a wireless pen to write into PowerPoint, websites, or a virtual whiteboard. In today’s classroom the ability to creatively present material is key to engaging students in learning.

This technology will allow the projection of the teacher calculator so that the students can easily follow along. It will also allow use of TI software “Smart View”.

(Educating Learners More Optimally)" was awarded $3,000 to the Intermediate Fourth Grade teachers to purchase two ELMO brand visual presenters, also known as document cameras, two Hitachi projectors, and one AV cart. Visual presents offer endless possibilities to enhance instruction to today’s generation of visual learners by projecting almost any type of non-electronic visual media for the entire class to share. In additions, this equipment allows the projection of documents and websites from the computer with the use of the projector.

“Seeing Is Believing!” was awarded $3,000 to the Intermediate Third Grade teachers and includes the purchase of two ELMO visual presenter, two Hitachi projectors, and one AV cart. The visual technology will help students see work that we are doing in the classroom. Students will be able to take their work and explain to other students the process they used to get the answer. It is also a very effective tool for those who are visual learners as well as those who need the concrete and kinesthetic style of learning. This technology allows the teacher the opportunity to model the lesson objective in a larger group setting.

This project will allow the social studies teachers the use of multiple media presentation resources to address the various learning styles of the Spring Hill Junior High student body. Teachers will use PowerPoint, simulations, audio books, and presentation projects to form a deeper understanding in students. More material can be taught in greater detail.

The current district network is operating on a backbone of fiber optic cable with traffic conduction of 10/100 mbs. The funds from this grant will allow the upgrade to newer technology standards using a gigabit transfer rate for traffic. Performing the upgrade will provide the district network the capability of utilizing new computer technology for classroom instruction, especially in the upper grades.

“Capturing Kid’s Heart’s Training” was awarded $2,275 for the District level Staff Development initiative. This training will allow for the professional development and building of teacher strengths in effective teaching techniques, classroom management strategies and behavior intervention strategies. This training will equip the SH administrative team and teachers with tools needed to motivate, challenge, and teach learners from all ethnic and socioeconomic student groups. The training will use the EXCEL Teaching Model in creating a safe, effective learning environment, develop a self-managing classroom, provide techniques for dealing with behavioral and disrespect issues, and provide training on how to build productive relationships with ALL student and colleagues. This grant will provide training for the SH ISD Superintendent, Curriculum Director, and 5 Campus Principals.
