We wanted to highlight a few grants as examples of the variety and excellence awarded this year:

Primary Campus: 23 Primary teachers teamed up to write 3 grants, one for each grade level. Their request was to supply palm pilots for each teacher to implement mobile testing for the state required reading assessment. The name of their grant was, “Education in the ‘Palm’ of Your Hand”.

The Primary 1st grade teachers requested mobile listening technology centers, titled “Hear Ye! Hear Ye!” to provide student with independent reading fluency practice. The center features a wheeled AV cart, stereo headphones, and grade level hanging books on audiocassettes.

Intermediate Campus: ELMO document cameras and projectors were the main requests with grants titles such as, “Electrify Learning ELMO Style” and “Mission E.L.M.O. – Exceptional Learners Motivated Onward”.

A Staff Development Grant titled “Destination R.E.A.D. – Reading is Essential for Academic Development” was awarded to allow 6 Intermediate teachers to attend a workshop through the “Texas State Reading Association."

Middle School Campus: 6th grade Language Arts teacher, Carol McDowell received the grant “Knowledge in Jeopardy”. This grant supplied technology for student scoreboards and remotes in an electronic Jeopardy game. This technology allows review of language arts material in a fun and innovative way.

“WOW! Web on Wheels” was the campus $9,679 grant awarded for 8 laptop computers on a mobile electrical cart with wireless routers. The laptops are portable and can be utilized as needed to challenge the gifted student as well as in small classroom projects.

Junior High: ELMO document cameras and projectors were the main requests from teachers in English, Science, and Math.

“Reading Into the Future” was a grant prepared by the reading teachers, Tina Lee & Taylor Clark, requesting a full set-up of ELMO camera & cart, projector, laptop computer, and 70x70 projector screen. This technology will assist the Junior High students with innovative teaching with PowerPoint, excerpts from books, educational games from the Web, and allow student presentations.

High School: Advanced Placement Biology Teacher Lisa Gathright was funded for the grant “AP Science: The Key to a Promising Future”. This grant will help purchase science lab technology such as a Spectrometer, Logger Pro Software, & DNA Electrophoresis Power Supply.

Teams of teachers from the High School English, Science, and Social Studies departments wrote grants to request ELMO projector systems. Chairman Linda McGarvey, and the English team of teachers, was awarded the grant titled, “Extreme Makeover Classroom Edition: A New Point Of View”. They were granted $3,000 and the English department added $1,000 of their own matching dollars.

The Spring Hill ISD Education Foundation was created in the fall of 2005 to support and enhance the education of all students in the Spring Hill Independent School District. It is a 501c(3) non-profit organization governed by a Board of Directors representing a cross-section of citizens who are dedicated to education and share a vision for excellence in our schools.

The Foundation exists:
 to provide opportunities for the community to financially support educational excellence in the Spring Hill ISD.
 to promote and facilitate funding of creative and innovative educational programs in our District.
 to encourage students and staff through positive reinforcement of educational activities and to provide a perpetual source of funds for staff and students for years to come.

We appreciate so much the generous donors of our Spring Hill and Longview community. Without their vision and bold giving, we would not be able to award these innovative, educational technologies to these deserving teachers and students.
